2 Simple Reasons Why Men Play Video Games

Your boyfriend/husband comes home from work, gives you a kiss, complains about work for a minute or two, and then goes off and plays video games…for hours on end.

At first, this didn’t bug you because you realized it made him happy. But somewhere along the way, you began to feel lonely and ignored by your boyfriend.

Here are 3 simple reasons why men play video games.

Reason 1: Men want to play the Hero

Reasons Why Men Play Video Games

Ever since men were boys they’ve read comics, watched superhero movies, and have pictured themselves in the hero role.

It’s the same when they’re grown men. When they watch action movies, they put themselves in the shoes of the hero who’s taking revenge on the bad guys.

And the same thing goes for video games.

Men find deep satisfaction in triumphing over someone. It’s more addicting when they’re playing against an actual person.

Hence the popularity of multiplayer games like Call of Duty.

When a man eliminates an enemy teammate it means he’s triumphed over an actual real-life person.

Reason 2: Playing video games is how men unwind

The second reason why men love playing video games is that it’s their way to unwind from a stressful day at work.

I’m generalizing here but women tend to relax by having a glass of wine, talking to their mom or best friend, taking a bath, exercising on their Peleton, etc.

Men, on the other hand, play video games to get a respite from the stresses of life. They draw inward to find that restoration.

Solution 1: Show Interest In His Video Games

Reasons Why Men Play Video Games

You may ask yourself, “Self, why would I want to show interest in his video games when I hate that he’s choosing them over me?”

There’s been a recent trend on TikTok where women in similar situations as you choose to actively show interest in their boyfriend/husband’s gaming.

And the result is amazing. See for yourself:

When you show interest in him playing video games he will become elated.

He’ll remember why he loves spending time with you and he will begin to WANT to spend more time with you. It’s that simple.

But what if you don’t want to watch him play video games? In fact, you probably resent video games at this point. And so you may not care why men love playing video games.

This was the scenario with my wife and me. She had zero interest in my gaming. While we went through the wringer at first, failing to communicate effectively the whole time, we eventually came out on the other side with a better, healthier, more fulfilling relationship.

So how did we fix it?

How did my wife get me to stop playing World of Warcraft for 4 hours every night?
